That's the best way I can describe 90210. Horrific.
I mean, first of all...as the show ended (and after taking a verbal beating from Jeff for the last 20 minutes of the show), I felt exhausted. It was as if the show had sucked my soul right out of my body.
1. It went too fast. The director obviously learned last week what "jump cuts" are (a fast-paced switching from scene to scene), and went f'ing bonkers. It was like every 15 seconds there was a whole new thing happening on the screen unrelated to what had JUST happened before it.
2. Dixon (african american foster kid) got like NO screen time. and he plays lacrosse. because his dad did. way to edify some stereotypes but not others...lacrosse? really? okay...if that's how this is going to play.
3. there was no logic. AT ALL. like, dixon sends naomi a text message about ethan cheating. wait -- did dixon and naomi even MEET? how the f did he get her cell phone number???? and why was Annie all worried that ethan would think it was her who told naomi -- these people don't have caller ID??? they live in beverly hills for god's sake and all have T-mobile sidekicks. i'm pretty sure they can figure out who sent a text message.
4. annie NEVER got in trouble for sneaking out to go to a party, but did get in trouble for matches from san francisco in her pocket. how about this, annie: why not say you got them at a store? or from a friend? i guess if i have matches in my bag that say 'made in china', i went to china to get them. you complete moron...
5. i love that silver is kelly's mom's and david's dad's kid. and that she has a blog. how very 2004.
6. nice cameo by andrea and jesse's kid as the school reporter. touche, darren star. touche.
I hated it. I really did. i wanted SOOOOOOO bad to love it and watch it and think about it and start an online fan club for those over 30 who can't get enough of the new 90210. but it was so unbelievably awful. i could barely sit through it.
maybe it will slow down; maybe next week will make sense and have a plot and reason and stuff. fingers crossed.
